Megerian Carpet, established in 1917 in New York, is a family-owned business dedicated to preserving and innovating Armenian rug-weaving traditions. Starting with the repair and trade of antique rugs, the Megerian family expanded their operations in the 1970s by venturing into manufacturing and establishing factories in countries such as Egypt, followed by further expansions into Pakistan, Afghanistan, Romania, China, and India.
In the 2000s, they returned to Armenia, and by acquiring and modernizing the Hye Gorg Rug Factories, they reintroduced the traditional Armenian double-knot technique, which is renowned for its strength and longevity.
Today, Megerian Carpet continues its legacy by offering not only high-quality handmade carpets but also cultural and educational experiences. The center houses a manufacturing facility that preserves the finest traditions of Armenian carpet weaving, as well as a museum showcasing a unique collection of antique carpets. Some of these carpets are over 400 years old, demonstrating the skill of Armenian artisans.
In the showroom, visitors can purchase carpets, jewelry, scarves, and other items featuring Armenian national motifs. The cultural center also hosts exhibitions, masterclasses, and other cultural events in its event hall.
In addition, the Megerian Carpet Restaurant, where traditional Armenian dishes are prepared by the renowned chef Sedrak Mamulyan, offers a perfect complement to the cultural and historical experience.
Thus, Megerian Carpet continues to preserve and share Armenia’s rich cultural heritage, creating works of art that connect the past with the present.
